We have a university-wide agreement for self-managed cloud services for Microsoft Azure. These agreements provide the University community with discounted rates, enhanced security, and improved terms and conditions for faculty, staff, and departmental use. To begin using these services, a cloud services request form should be submitted. 

Use examples:

Virtual server storage, cloud storage, databases, analytics, etc. Storage costs vary by service and configuration; typically billing is based on used capacity and network traffic.

To take advantage of competitive pricing through our Internet provider agreement, please schedule a consultation with the Research IT team.

Google Drive

Brief description:

Google Apps/G Suite for Education is integrated with University IDs and passwords and offers increased securities and protections not found in the public version of these applications.

Use examples:

Store, create, and share files, documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. Collaborate in real time.
Also available with your G Suite account are Google Team Drives and the Drive File Stream desktop app (Mac or PC).

Technical complexity:

Easy to use, but there are many features.  So it worth your time to explore and understand them in order to be effective.

Security and privacy:

Exercise caution and discretion when working in Google for Education.

Most forms of confidential data should NOT be used with any Google Apps. Google has agreed to properly host University’s FERPA protected educational records as an institutional agent in Core Apps only. Please avoid any use of Google Apps with confidential data other than educational records. Similarly Google Apps should NOT be used for any information subject to U.S. export control laws.

OneDrive

Brief description:

Microsoft 365 is a suite of office productivity software customized and configured for the University’s unique environment. Microsoft 365 offers robust features, a secure, collaborative environment, and the ability to use on multiple devices.

Use examples:

OneDrive offers users a simple way to store, sync and share files with other people and devices. The files stored in OneDrive can be accessed directly from a web browser or from an operating system.

Cost:

Capacity:

5 TB per person.  1 TB per Team site which can be increase by request after is approved.

Access:

Access through web interface and client for SYNC with local computers.

OneDrive is available to individual accounts for faculty, staff and students.
OneDrive is not available to purchased departmental/unit accounts.

Private / Moderate Risk
Confidential – PII (Personally Identifiable Information)
Confidential – Research (Whose premature release would be detrimental)
Confidential – FERPA (Student Educational Record)
